I think sleeve tattoos are super hot, but I can’t think of anything that big and intricate I’d want permanently inked on me. Plus, I’m very indecisive.* I couldn’t commit to anything that big. I have a tiny Chinese character on my hip, and I’m toying with the idea of covering it with a different tattoo. I don’t regret getting it, but I just feel like I’ve changed a lot since I got it at 18. Also, given my short and scattered attention span, eight years is a good long run for me to have commited to anything.
*Thirdly, it’d KILL Mother.

Yeah, I relate to your that “attention span” issue. I can’t imagine liking the same blob of ink 10 years from now. Or 10 weeks from now.

I’ve only had mine for a few years now, but I haven’t gotten tired of it. But if you cover up the one you have now, are you going to wind up covering up the cover up at some point?

Maybe. Maybe not. I’m trying to avoid making decisions on the basis of Future Susan possibly changing her mind. Might as well do what Present Susan wants, and then whatever happens later is Future Susan’s problem.

Fair enough. Future Susan sounds like kind of a jerk anyway, serves her right.

while I have contemplated of getting a Gaelic tattoo , I will make sure it is spelled correctly and means the right thing. I am amused by the thought of occidentals getting chinese characters tattooed on themselves.
You think it means ” free spirit”, when it really says ” ugly cow face whore”. Or you were told by the tattoo artists that it is an ancient phrase meaning “angel warrior of clouds” but really says” chicken chow mein”.
if you walk down the street in Chinatown and the locals are pointing and laughing, probably not a good sign.
